Timothy Burke at Deadspin has the skinny on how FOX manipulated the audio feed during Neil Diamond’s performance at the All-Star Game to make the New York crowd seem more exuberant than they actually were. I think this incident proves two things we already knew:

* Indeed, we will never be rid of the Boomers. Mark my words, as their expiration date approaches, science will gradually extend their lifespans, little by little, until they’re the first generation of people that are effectively immortal.
2. The idea of simply showing a baseball game, without interrupting it for some weepy on-field ceremony or performance, is utterly anathema in the Selig/FOX era, which can be summarized thusly: Stay in the dugout, guys, we’re stopping the game so the commissioner can present an award to Cal Ripken and then Kid Rock and Jay-Z are going to perform a duet.
