Last week I saw a baseball game in Brooklyn, where the Cyclones play in my all-time favorite minor-league ballpark. You can stroll along the Coney Island boardwark, take in a New York-Penn League contest, and then finish your evening with a “ride” on one of the world’s oldest and scariest and painfulest roller coasters. Is this Brooklyn? No, it’s heaven.
Sicnarf Loopstok is for real

The game I saw featured Mahoning Valley Scrappers catcher Sicnarf Loopstok.

Other things I have learned ...
Sneezy’s Scrappers play in the six-team Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League. There are also two four-team divisions; the Cyclones play in the McNamara Division, and there’s also the Stedler Division. Who were Pinckney, McNamara, and Stedler? They were all heroes of the oft-forgotten 1836 Appalachian Conflict, which pitted the Empire-Keystone Militia against a coalition of invading troops and irregulars from Minnesota and Michigan (Upper Peninsula).
