It was 150 years ago today that Vicksburg fell to Ulysses S. Grant while, to the east, the sainted Bobby Lee was in full retreat from his beating at Gettysburg. (Was the one true opportunity to curtail the rebellion earlier lost when George Meade failed to give full pursuit to the Army of Northern Virginia after Gettysburg?)

Meanwhile, soldiers on both sides were busy making baseball the next big thing and this issue of Civil War Times Illustrated has the story. Naturally, this gives us an excuse to go watch this amazing bit of comedy one more time.
