On August 4, 1983, Dave Winfield killed a seagull while warming up before a game in Toronto’s Exhibition Stadium. The bird was struck by a ball thrown by Winfield and died on the spot. The resulting fervor can best be summarized by this video:

On the 30th anniversary of one of the oddest moments in baseball history, Dave Winfield offered a sweet tribute to his winged victim.


Sunday marked the 30th anniversary of the event. In its honor, the 61-year-old Hall of Famer tweeted this out to the world.
