Juan Pierre, optimist

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Juan Pierre’s agent is a shrewd man, and he’s going to scrap for every last dollar that’s coming to his client. Pierre signed a one-year deal with the Marlins in the offseason, and there were some incentive clauses included in the contract. Let’s check in on the status of those clauses:

Award bonuses: $25,000 each for All-Star, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger. $50,000 for LCS MVP. $0.1M each for MVP, WS MVP

Well, he already missed out on the All-Star clause, but he still has a shot at the rest. Pierre has never won a Silver Slugger before ... wait, let me ... yeah, that’s right ... and his .299 slugging percentage might put him at a disadvantage in this year’s race.

But this is America, and everyone has the right to dream. You keep at it, Juan Pierre. You keep doing what you’re doing, and never give up on those slugging, Gold Glove, and World Series MVP dreams.
