Immediately after this happened, Twitter told me it was THE CATCH OF THE YEAR. What do you think?
Did Josh Donaldson just make THE CATCH OF THE YEAR?

Yeah, probably not. Probably THE CATCH OF THE DAY and maybe even THE CATCH OF THE WEEK. But Donaldson wasn’t running full tilt, he didn’t wind up in the stands, and he wasn’t bleeding afterward. Also, he gets a demerit for the fauxhawk.
This, on the other hand, might well have been a CATCH OF THE YEAR:
Full tilt? Check.
In the stands? Check.
Bloody mess? Check.
None of which means Donaldson’s play wasn’t necessarily THE CATCH OF THE YEAR. It just means it wasn’t THE CAPTAIN’S CATCH. If you’re putting together a 16-catch CATCH OF THE YEAR tournament, Donaldson’s in there. He probably doesn’t win. But he’s in there.
What’s actually more incredible than Donaldson’s circus catch is that he somehow went from being a catcher and a first baseman to being, with essentially no transition period at all, one of the best-fielding third basemen in the majors. And I’m not sure people have mentioned that often enough.
