Updated World Series odds

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It’s time for the semi-weekly World Series and pennant odds update. These odds are provided by the good folks at Bovada, and they’re a window into the future. If you’re poor, here’s a good way to get rich!

Now, usually the odds are with the casinos and bookmakers when you bet on sports. No, no, it’s true. I read it on Wikipedia years ago. But follow my logic here:

Either the Rangers or A’s will win the West, which gives one of them a 1-in-8 shot at the World Series. The other one has to go to the play-in Wild Card game, which gives them a 50-percent chance of that 1-in-8 shot. So, 1-in-16.

Yet the Rangers are 10-to-1 to win the World Series, and the A’s are 12-to-1

So if you put, I don’t know, your life savings on both the Rangers and A’s, you’re beating the odds.

It can’t lose. Except for all the ways it can. Also, I was an English major, so I’m not really sure what “odds” are. But here are the updated odds for the World Series and pennants in both leagues:
