I promise, this won’t take a lot of your time. I just want to point out that, with the NFL spending hundreds of millions of dollars to begin to address its concussion-related issues, and Major League Baseball’s catchers dropping like flies due to concussions, this happened Thursday night:

Wait. Let me rephrase that. This was allowed to happen Wednesday night.
The runner is Erie Seawolf Brandon Douglas; the catcher, Harrisburg Senator Brian Jeroloman. If you’re a fetishist or something, you can see the aftermath here in Dayn Perry’s column. But if you do enjoy this sort of violence, get your fill now. Because even if you think “it’s just part of baseball” (it is, but shouldn’t be), it’s not going to last much longer. It’s going to be just another year or two when everybody realizes the risk isn’t nearly outweighed by the rewards. Not in our society.
This won’t be the last home-plate collision you ever see. But I’ll bet I don’t have to write many more screeds like this one.
