Accomplished British film director and producer Danny Boyle, director of “Trainspotting,” “Slumdog Millionaire” and “127 Hours,” is the creative mind behind the opening ceremonies at the 2012 Olympics. He’s come up with an ambitious vision for the ceremonies that features a large depiction of the British countryside, complete with live animals.

“Green and Pleasant” is the name of the opening scene, and the official website of the London Olympics issued a release Wednesday detailing everything that’s going into the performance.

The whole of the field of play in the Stadium will be transformed into the rolling British countryside as the London 2012 Ceremonies Team creates one of the largest sets ever built. The set will be complete with meadows, fields and rivers, and featuring families taking picnics, sport being played on the village green and farmers tilling the soil whilst real farmyard animals graze - including 12 horses, 3 cows, 2 goats, 10 chickens, 10 ducks, 9 geese, 70 sheep, and 3 sheep dogs.

The elaborate opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics will feature 12,956 props and 23,000 costumes. An incredible 10,000 volunteers, cast and crew will be involved in the production.
