2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials: Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps Advance To Finals

The 2012 U.S. Olympic swimming trials are in the second day of qualifying as the men’s 200m free semifinal, which saw Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps face off in the race. The two favorites were dead even with a few other swimmers as they hit the final turn of the 100m free, but were able to seperate themselves.

Coming down the final stretch, Lochte just edged out Phelps to finish in first place. Lochte finished with a time of 1.46.25 while Phelps was right behind with a time of 1.46.27. Both men advance to the finals in the men’s 200m free.

There were six other qualifiers included Conor Dwyer, Matt McLean, Ricky Berens, Charlie Houchin, Davis Tarwater, and Michael Klueh. The eight swimmers will compete in the men’s 100m finals on Thursday. Peter Vanderkaay just missed the finals, finishing .03 seconds out of eighth-place.
