2012 Olympic Swimming Trials: Allison Schmitt, Chloe Sutton Qualify For Women’s 400m Free

The women’s 400m free final took place on Tuesday evening on Day 2 of the 2012 Olympic Trials with Allison Schmitt taking first place in the race, with a time of 4:02.84. Schmitt took a massive lead early on in the race but began to lose steam down the final stretch. Schmitt held on for the win however, with Chloe Sutton taking second place.

Sutton beat out Kathleen Ledecky for second place in the race to join Schmitt on the women’s 400m free U.S. Olympic team, finishing with a time of 4:04.18. Early on Sutton was in third place, but at the 200m turn was able to overtake Ledecky and hold on down the stretch of the race to capture second place.

Ledeky finished up in third place with a time of 4:05.00.
