2012 Olympic Swimming Trials: Breeja Larson, Rebecca Soni Qualify in 100m Breast

A three-woman race between Breeja Larson, Rebecca Soni and Jessica Hardy saw Larson and Soni touch the wall just barely before Hardy, allowing Larson and Soni to go to London while Hardy will need other top-two finishes in other competitions to earn her spot on the Olympic team.

Hardy touched the wall first at 50 meters, but she didn’t have too big a lead on anybody. Soni and Larson made their presences felt quickly, and after 75 meters, it was clear that someone would be just tenths of seconds short of securing a spot in the Olympics. That pair surged ahead of a tiring Hardy, with Larson’s final stroke pushing her to the touch just .07 seconds faster than Soni for the No. 1 finish.

Soni took the silver in the event in 2008, while Larson will be heading to her first Olympics.

Here’s the full results from the event:

  1. Breeja Larson: 1:05.92Rebecca Soni: 1:05.99Jessica Hardy: 1:06.53Ellyn Baumgardner: 1:07.19Annie Chandler: 1:07.28Emily McClellan: 1:07.41Micah Lawrence: 1:07.67Ashley Wanland: 1:07.89
