2012 Olympic Swimming Trials: Ryan Lochte, Tyler Clary Qualify In 200m Backstroke As Expected

To the surprise of no one, Ryan Lochte and Tyler Clary have smoked the field in the 200 meter backstroke to qualify for the event at the 2012 Olympics. Both were already Olympians and pulled away from their competitors easily in the final 50 meters of the race.

Lochte won the race in 1:54.54, followed by Clary in 1:54.88. Both were more than two seconds ahead of their nearest competitors.

This was the first of three races on Saturday night for Lochte, who has a semifinal heat as well as an important 200 meter individual medley showdown with Michael Phelps later on. He has 27 minutes between this race and that race in the IM.
