Ryan Lochte On Saturday’s Triple: ‘Most Pain I’ve Ever Endured’

We mentioned earlier that Ryan Lochte was scheduled to swim in three events Saturday night at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Swimming, and he actually followed through with it (some thought he’d scratch an event). So how did he do?

A pretty good night for Lochte! But of course, that doesn’t tell the whole story.

Lochte’s triple -- an unprecedented feat at the trials, mind you -- left him absolutely exhausted (something Phelps said he took advantage of). After his 100m fly semis, NBC showed Lochte struggling just to pull himself out of the pool. In all, Lochte swam three races in 57 minutes, with a medal ceremony and at least one interview mixed in for good measure.

"Tonight was probably the most pain I've ever endured in a swimming competition," Lochte said afterward. And that's coming from a guy who "likes pain."

He summed it up nicely for NBC after third and final swim: “I don’t feel so hot.”

The 100m fly finals are Sunday night. There was immediate speculation Saturday night that Lochte would scratch that race, but he quickly killed those rumors, saying emphatically that he’d swim in the finals. Lochte vs. Phelps, Round four.
