Pau Gasol Selected As Spain’s Flag Bearer

Pau Gasol has replaced Rafael Nadal as Spain’s flag bearer in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Originally, Rafael Nadal was scheduled to be the flag bearer for Spain during the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony in London next week, but the 2008 Gold Medal winner pulled out of the Olympics with a knee injury. With Nadal's withdraw, Spain had to pick a new flag bearer and has decided on Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol, who's also a member of Spain's Olympic Men's Basketball team.

Gasol was a member of Spain’s Silver Medal winning team in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

“It’s one of the sweetest moments of my career to be carrying the flag of my country with all of our athletes and representing our country,” Gasol said. “It’s a very special moment.”
