The 2012 Olympics opening ceremony in London is already going to be an over-the-top spectacle, as all good opening ceremonies are. The show is being conceived and directed by Danny Boyle, although sadly it won’t prominently feature heroin addicts or Leonardo DiCaprio imagining himself inside a video game or sprinting zombies or James Franco cutting his arm off. (Well, it might feature that last one, but Franco is pretty unpredictable.) What it will feature is “Hey Jude.”
‘Hey Jude’ Will Close Out Olympics Opening Ceremony

The Daily Mail reports that Paul McCartney (Sir Paul, if you’re nasty) will close out the Olympics Games opening ceremony with a stirring rendition of Hey Jude, ending with him leading the 60,000 fans in the Olympic Stadium for a sing-along. It should be quite a scene, with that many people singing (presumably) boisterously all at once. There’s also likely no way that it goes less than 12 minutes. By the ninth time through the chorus, check the crowd for people looking at their watches.
“Hey Jude” will be exceptionally fitting for the Olympics, because it’s ... uh ... meant for a child coping with divorce? Oh wait, no, it’s because the Olympics are a ... um ... sad time? And this will make it better? Crud. Oh! I know. It’s you remind everyone to let her into your heart. “Her” in this case probably means Hope Solo.
Ringo Starr’s repeated calls to Boyle about whether he could lead the crowd in a sing-along of “Octopus’s Garden” were not returned.
