London Olympics 2012: U.S. Athletes To Watch

Matt Ufford and Amy K. Nelson preview U.S. Olympic athletes to watch in London.

With the 2012 Summer Olympics set to officially begin Friday in London, there will be a lot of attention on Team USA. With 530 athletes representing the red, white and blue, it would be nearly impossible to follow all of them. Those of you unable to watch every Olympic event are in luck.

SB Nation’s Matt Ufford and Amy K. Nelson previewed the Olympics with a quick video rundown of U.S. athletes to watch in London.

The picks range from full teams, like the U.S. women’s national soccer team, to individual athletes, such as sprinter Allyson Felix. A few of the choices, including tennis star Serena Williams and champion swimmer Michael Phelps, are already household names. Others, such as decathlete Ashton Eaton and 17-year-olds Claressa Shields (boxing), Jordyn Wieber (gymnastics) and Missy Franklin (swimming) could gain national notoriety with strong Olympic performances.

In addition to the list of 10 athletes to watch, Matt and Amy also discuss strong ponytail styles and possible intro music selections.
