Women’s Archery Team Medal Event: South Korea Takes Gold, Again

South Korea’s women’s archery team came into the 2012 Olympics as the only team to ever win gold in women’s team archery. By a single point, the Koreans retained that status on Sunday, adding their seventh consecutive gold medal in the event.

After China put on the pressure by notching a superb 55 in its final six-arrow end, South Korea responded with a 54 of its own to prevail 210-209 in the four-end, 24-arrow final. Both teams scored six 10s of 24 shots, but South Korea’s 10 9s helped carry the day.

Neither team started strong in the rain, but China scored 8 or better on its final 18 arrows, and South Korea did so on its final 17.

South Korea has won gold in the event in every Olympics since the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. If you were worried that all of that was getting old hat for the Koreans: no, they were wearing awesome hats, not old ones.
