The Women’s 53 kg weightlifting final took place on Saturday afternoon with Kazakhstan’s Zulfiya Chinshanlo taking home the gold medal and setting an olympic record at the same time. Chinshanlo clean and jerked 131 kilograms (288.8 pounds) on her second attempt, beating the previous record by 1 kg.

Hsu Shu-ching of Taiwan took home the silver medal and Cristina Iovu of Moldova the bronze.

The 19-year-old Chinshanlo followed up her 2011 World Championship with Olympic gold and a world record, finishing up with a total of 226 kilograms. Chinshanlo had to rally back from third place, but dominated the clean and jerk to take away the gold medal.

Zhou Jun of China, who was a medal favorite, surprisingly failed her three snatch attempts and was dispatched early.
