Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka Advance In Olympics Women’s Tennis

Serena Williams continued her quest for gold at Wimbledon Monday with a 6-2, 6-3 second round victory over Poland’s Urszula Radwanska.

Williams was impressive, notching eight aces and 26 total winners to only 16 unforced errors, and was never in danger throughout the match. Williams converted on four of five break opportunities and only gave up one break herself. She will advance to take on Russia’s Vera Zvonareva in the third round.

Meanwhile top-seed Victoria Azarenka struggled in her opening-round match against Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu, dropping the second set before advancing 6-1, 3-6, 6-1. Azarenka struggled with her serve, committing 13 double faults, but breezed through the first and third sets. Azarenka will take on Spain’s Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the second round.

Venus Williams also advanced in her first match Monday, defeating French Open runner-up and Italian Sara Errani. The Williams sisters will compete in women’s doubles later on Monday.
