Jangmi Kim won the first ever gold medal for South Korea in the women’s 25m pistol discipline, beating out 2008 gold medalist Ying Chen of China; Ukraine’s Olena Kostevych took home the bronze.

The favorite in this event, Kim set the world record in April with 796.9 points. On Wedneday, Kim finished with 792.4 points, topping Chen by exactly one point. In the qualifying round Kim set an Olympic record of 591 points while Chen qualified with 585 points. Chen posted the highest score in the final, notching 206.4 points, outscoring Kim by five points, but Kim’s qualifying score was high enough to hold the lead and claim the gold medal. We can expect to see more of Kim at future Olympics as she is only 19.

Kostevych’s bronze was her second of these Olympics; she also took third place in the women’s 10m air pistol final on Sunday.
