The allure of the Olympics is not about sports. It’s how easily regular people can relate to them. That’s why NBC shows as many shots of uptight parents as their exceptional children. It’s the ultimate eye-level event.
Olympic Team Gets Stuck With Fake Nike Gear, And We Can All Relate

Well, if there’s any Olympic team most of us can relate to, it’s the Egyptian delegation. Why? Because they got stuck with bootleg gear purchased for them by an adult who said “[y]ou can never tell the difference between the original and the fake ones.” In this case, athletes could tell, since their bags had Nike logos...and Adidas zippers. And if you can’t relate to that, consider what Egypt’s athletes were told after complaining -- either they had to take that fugazi gear or get nothing.
Anyone with cheap parents can relate. That includes “Bomani & Jones,” so we decided to document the Olympic struggle. Not the struggle to get to the Games, but the struggle of wearing fake stuff that even the most impoverished nations would give the Olympic side-eye.
“You can never tell the difference.” Sheeeeeeeit. Like, anyone else would, we’ve got jokes.
