Olympic Tennis: Andy Murray Cruises To Semis, Bryan Brothers Need Tiebreaks To Advance

Andy Murray is two wins away from doing what he couldn’t a few weeks ago: win the finals of a tournament at Wimbledon.

Murray faced up against Spain’s Nicolas Almagro, the tournament’s 11th seed, and advanced easily behind the strength of absolutely brutal serving: Murray served 15 aces to Almagro’s one and scored on a ridiculous 28 out of 30 points on first serve. He won 6-4 in the first set and broke Almagro three times in the second for the 6-4 6-1 victory. He’ll face the winner of the matchup between Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

In the version of the sport with four guys on the court, the Bryan Brothers also found their way into the semifinals, although it was far from an easy victory, needing two tiebreaks, but winning both to advance in straight sets over an Israeli team of Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich. In the second set tiebreak, neither side won on the opposing serve for the first 22 points, leading to a tense scenario where the match hung on every point. However, Israel double-faulted after switching service, giving the Bryan Brothers a 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (12-10) victory.
