London 2012 Olympics Swimming: TV Coverage, Event Schedule For Friday

Swimming is wrapping up in the 2012 Summer Olympics, but Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin and Cullen Jones will all be in the pool chasing gold on Friday.

Presswire

Swimming may be wrapping up at the 2012 Summer Olympics, but Friday’s events are sure to provide plenty of drama and star power to enjoy as you head into the weekend.

Michael Phelps will look to capture the 21st -- and perhaps final -- gold medal of his career in the 100m butterfly. Phelps is the clear-cut favorite to win the event as he posted the fastest qualifying time on Thursday. This is the same event, you may remember, that Phelps won in 2008 by just a single one-hundredeth of a second, coming from behind to beat Serbian Milorad Čavić.

Perhaps the most exciting race will be the 50m freestyle, a true swimming sprint where American Cullen Jones will look to go from zero to gold medal in under 22 seconds

Additionally, Missy Franklin will be competing in the 200m backstroke final, an event she calls “her favorite race.”

Below is the full schedule of swimming events for the day. All times listed are Eastern:

5:00 a.m. -- Women’s 50m Freestyle - Heats

5:24 a.m. -- Men’s 1500m Freestyle - Heats

6:35 a.m. -- Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay - Heats

6:49 a.m. -- Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay - Heats

2:30 p.m. -- Women’s 200m Backstroke - Final

2:38 p.m. -- Men’s 100m Butterfly - Final (perhaps Michael Phelps’ final individual race)

2:45 p.m. -- Women’s 800m Freestyle - Final

3:09 p.m. -- Men’s 50m Freestyle - Final

3:25 p.m. -- Women’s 50m Freestyle - Semifinals

All four gold-medal finals will be broadcast on tape delay beginning at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, but you can stream each event live on NBCOlympics.com.
