It came within a whisker of not happening, but Pride House opens today with a bang. With viewing parties, a Youth Day, a bowling night and a picnic, among other events, they’ve got a fun, robust schedule planned!
Pride House Opens At Olympics, Welcomes Gay Athletes, Fans, And Supporters
Out Olympians Ji Wallace and Karen Hultzer expected to make appearances
In April, Pride House London announced they could not secure enough funding for the over-the-top extravaganza they wanted to put on. Several organizations, including Pride Sports and the Federation of Gay Games, banded together to save what they now call Pride House 2012.
One of the centerpieces is Jeff Sheng’s Fearless project. Sheng has spent much of the last 10 years photographing out LGBT high school and college athletes.
Unlike in Vancouver, out Olympians will also make appearances at Pride House. Former trampoline medalist Ji Wallace will be there, along with South African archer Karen Hultzer, who came out publicly on Outsports earlier this week.
They’re also having a meeting on Saturday about tackling homophobia via the International Olympic Committee.
