2012 Summer Olympics: Great Britian Wins Gold In Women’s Cycling Team Pursuit, Sets World Record

Great Britain took home the gold medal in Women’s Team Pursuit Cycling on Saturday, setting a new world record.

On Day 8 of the 2012 Summer Olympics, the fate of the gold medal for the Women’s Team Pursuit in cycling would be decided between the United States and Great Britain, as the two teams faced off in the gold medal round. It wasn’t much of a match however, as the Brits beat the United States by just over a full five seconds, setting a new world record with a time of 3:14.051.

Great Britain is one of the best in the event, so taking home the silver medal for the United States can’t be seen as too much of a disappointment. The United States finished with a time of 3:19.727

Even though many expected Great Britain to take home the gold, it wasn’t expected for the team to break their own world record, which they set in Round 1 of the Team Pursuit earlier in the day.
