The Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Rams don’t come up much in discussions of the NFL’s most storied rivalries. The two were in the NFC West together for six seasons, but Sunday’s game between the two was just their fifth regular season meeting in a dozen years. Which, given the general above-and-beyond aggro vibes on display in Carolina’s 30-15 win -- which included Rams DE Chris Long being ejected for throwing a punch and Panthers receiver Steve Smith promising after the game to “punch [Janoris Jenkins] in his [profanity for emphasis] mouth” -- is probably for the best.

Smith declined to get too specific about what kind of trash talk Jenkins deployed during the game, except to note that Jenkins did some internet research -- “obviously his first time ever using the internet and Google,” Smith said, “and he Googles information about me, talks about my wife and stuff like that.” It would have been both interesting and informative if Jenkins’ web savvy led him to his own Wikipedia page, which was updated with some surprising new information after Sunday’s game by that site’s diligent researchers.
Perhaps you have noticed that part of this entry is not strictly accurate. (It has, unsurprisingly, been corrected.) But credit to the NFL’s WikiVandals -- last seen getting really pessimistic on Brian Hoyer’s Wiki page last month -- for being savvy enough to include a citation.
Criticize their judgment or maturity if you like. But let’s never pretend WikiVandals -- like yang-talking defensive backs -- don’t do their research.
