Zach Hodskins probably won’t play huge minutes for the University of Florida this year, but he’ll be the most impressive player on the team. Hodskins, you see, was born with a birth defect that caused his left arm to end right below the elbow, but he still managed to be come a high school basketball star and Sunday accepted Billy Donovan’s offer to be a preferred walk-on for the Gators.
Zach Hodskins, one-armed basketball player, commits to Florida as walk-on
Florida’s latest commit is better at basketball with one hand than you are with two.

Donovan’s interest wasn’t a pity offer. The 6’3 kid from Milton, GA can play:
Having just one arm doesn’t prevent him from being a knockdown shooter, and he’s got a decent enough handle and whips out passes with his one arm. It’s really incredible to watch him catch passes with one hand and one nub, cue the ball up, and drain jumpers without a guide hand. He averaged 11 points this past year for a team that’s won Georgia state championships in two of the past four seasons.
Hodskins won’t be the first one-armed college hoops player -- 6’11 Kevin Laue played three years for Manhattan, appearing in 60 games over three years for the Jaspers -- but it’s amazing to see him reach such a high level. And I’d love to see him cross somebody up and drain a three in a college game like he does in those videos just about a million times. He’ll join the Gators in 2014.
