Richard Rodgers Jr. is a rookie tight end for the Packers, their third-round draft pick this year. Richard Rodgers Sr. is the special teams coordinator for the Panthers. Their teams played Sunday, and they got to share a moment:

The father and son have lived their whole lives in football, but haven’t really had the opportunity to spend a ton of time on the field alongside each other. Which made their Sunday meetup especially sweet.

They also met up before the game to play catch with one another:

— Justin Felder (@Justin_Felder) October 19, 2014 As this ESPN article notes, they’ve always had football in common, but it hasn’t always made it easy for them to hang out:
“I’m looking forward to it,” the younger Rodgers said Thursday. “It’s always been either him coaching or me getting to be on the sideline before every game but I had to go to the stands because I was too young to be on the sideline or anything like that. It’s going to be cool to be on the field actually with him actually this time.
“We’d play catch before when he was coaching. In Oregon, at Portland State, I had to hold his [headset] cord on the sideline - you know how they have people that hold the cord - I had to do that for a couple games. It was fun to be out there with him.”
Both Rodgers attended Cal -- the elder Rodgers was one of the players who lateraled the ball on “The Play” to beat Stanford in 1982 -- but the younger Rodgers was a top-level receiving talent while his dad coached at primarily FCS schools.
