Rich Rodriguez motivated Arizona with an Internet hoax

James Dator
James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.

Not to take away from Arizona’s stunning win over Oregon, but head coach Rich Rodriguez’s pre-game motivation techniques need a little work. While the sentiment is fine, the video he showed his team is almost guaranteed to be a hoax.

There’s only one video on YouTube purporting to show a man being struck by lightning twice. It’s this one, and it’s fake.

It’s not even a new hoax either. Snopes has it dating back to April 2011 and has firmly debunked the video.

Sorry Rich Rod, your team can definitely strike twice, but lightning? Not so much.
