After a long pass to Jordan Matthews in the second quarter against the Carolina Panthers, Mark Sanchez got the Eagles up to the line of scrimmage fast and snapped the ball ... only to be have the play blown dead for seemingly no reason:
Chip Kelly’s Eagles offense is too fast for NFL refs
First time we’ve ever seen a play blown dead because “the officials were not in a position to officiate.”
Turns out it was because the refs weren’t ready:
It seems the Eagles got up to the line quickly enough to snap the ball, but the zebras couldn’t keep pace We know Chip Kelly has them going fast, but this is the first time we’ve heard of them going so fast that the refs couldn’t properly set up.
It didn’t bother the Eagles much -- they kept chugging down the field for a touchdown, but still a funny moment.
Clearly, this is part of a league-sponsored conspiracy to slow down the Eagles.
