Saturday is the 110th meeting between South Dakota and South Dakota State, a rivalry that dates back to 1889. But unlike the first 109 meetings, this one will feature a Guinness World Record-breaking pillow fight led by arguably the second-most prominent member of *NSYNC, Joey Fatone. From the Argus Leader of Sioux Falls:
Joey Fatone to start record-breaking pillow fight at South Dakota-South Dakota State game
^^^^^^^ the above headline is a real headline and not the result of a weird-ass game of Mad Libs

As if you needed another reason to be in Brookings on Saturday for the USD-SDSU football game, here is one: Former ‘N Sync singer Joey Fatone will lead the “world’s largest pillow fight.“We have no idea why Fatone of all people was chosen to be the leader of a record pillow fight between FCS football teams, but, sure. Yes. We are on board with this. Yes. Go Jackrabbits. Go Coyotes. Go Joey Fatone. Go pillows.
The event, which is sponsored by Super 8, will take place at the end of the first quarter. According to a news release, Fatone will throw the first pillow, and the rest of the fight will occur in the grandstands.Kinda false advertising, in my opinion -- we’d hoped this meant Fatone would be in the mix, bashing folks in the head with pillows, and pictured him eventually emerging victorious amongst a sea of South Dakota State Jackrabbits fans. But alas, he’s just lofting in a pillow from the field while everybody else dukes it out. The previous record was set at a Chicago concert last year. It’s unclear how Guinness measures this record -- is everybody in the stands automatically considered a pillow fight participant? Are they going by total number of pillows? Or is somebody actually counting each person swinging? Regardless, SDSU seems pretty confident they’ll get it.
