Keith Olbermann’s tribute to Gordie Howe is emotional and perfect

James Dator has been covering a wide range of sports for SB Nation for over a decade, with a special focus on the NFL.
Gordie Howe wasn’t supposed to walk or possibly even live after his brain injury in the 1950 NHL playoffs. The next season he returned to score 86 points. This among many stories from Keith Olbermann tell the tale of a remarkable man, an amazing player and a better person, with a wit so sharp it could only be rivaled by his eidetic memory. Simply put: He’s one of the greatest athletes ever.
Olbermann says it all in one quote:
“The family is focused on making him comfortable and pain-free. Not to burden them further, but I wish they could do that for the rest of us.”
