Andrew Hawkins wears shirt honoring Tamir Rice, John Crawford III

Cleveland’s captain called for justice in a pair of local deaths while leading the Browns onto the field.

Andrew Hawkins was the Browns’ captain today for their matchup with their cross-state rival, and thus got to lead the team onto the field. He did so with a pair of names of Ohio citizens shot and killed by police on his shirt:

The shirt reads "Justice for Tamir Rice and John Crawford III". Rice was a 12-year-old shot in a Cleveland park while playing with a toy gun, while Crawford was holding a toy gun in a Walmart in Beavercreek. A slew of athletes have worn shirts reading "I Can't Breathe," the words said by Eric Garner as he was put in a chokehold by a New York cop, but Hawkins is the first to draw attention to Rice and Crawford.
