We have long been fascinated by the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl mascot. However, this is the most mystifying thing about the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl mascot:

— Jesse Spector (@jessespector) December 20, 2014 We went to the tape to see if we could find the poor bowl employee whose job it is to shield the potato, and sure enough, there he is, angling his umbrella to the best of his ability while the giddy potato-man claps.

The saddest part is that the umbrella holder does not have an umbrella of his own. It is justifiably pouring in Boise and only 40 degrees, and he’s apparently not allowed to cover his own head while ensuring the potato stays dry.
However, what confuses us is why the Potato Man needs to be kept dry anyway. Don’t you need to soak potatoes before cooking them? Does the idea of being soaked and prepared terrify The Potato Man so much that he can’t get even a little bit wet without freaking out? Do Potato Men drown easily? Is it just a poorly made suit? We may never know.
