No, Josh Smith didn’t shoot one too many bricks.
Look closely, and you’ll see that the rim at the Rockets-Wizards game is crooked. This is odd because the Rockets only had one possession and nobody tried to dunk during it. The game was stopped after just 48 seconds.
Referee Monty McCutchen had an idea: make the tall guy fix it.
Alas, that didn’t work. Instead, the arena staff needed to bring in an entire new basket, sending the teams to the locker room while they raised it.
That left Clutch, the Rockets’ mascot, to entertain Dikembe Mutombo and everyone else.
The game didn’t resume for 35 minutes. I felt sorry for broadcasters needing to fill dead air and Clutch for having to do this to amuse angry fans.
