NCAA won’t let losing March Madness teams stay the night

When a team loses in the NCAA tournament, they have to get on a chartered flight home that night — no matter how late it is.
San Diego State coach Steve Fisher ripped the NCAA for this practice during his postgame press conference on Thursday night. The Aztecs beat New Mexico State in a game that went to OT didn’t end until 10:30 p.m. local time.
From the San Diego Times-Union:
Fisher said he had requested that, had the Aztecs lost, they spend the night in Spokane and fly home on the NCAA-supplied charter Friday morning. He was told no and called NCAA officials in the hours before Thursday’s game to protest.
The Aztecs didn’t end up losing, but New Mexico State did. Adios, Aggies.
“New Mexico State has to do this,” Fisher said. “They didn’t want to go home, either. But they have to go home tonight. It’s disgraceful – for the billions of dollars that we have here, for them not to find a way to accommodate these kids, the student athletes. You can’t tell me they couldn’t find charter planes (Friday).
Cool! Just reason no. 857 that the NCAA is dumb.
