Every baseball player has his own routine, and Spring Training is, among other things, an opportunity to see how individual players go about getting ready for the season. Jesus Montero, for instance, spent the offseason training with Chef Boyardee, and is still watching a lot of “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” in the Mariners’ video room to get his timing right. Carl Crawford is on a diet that involves force-feeding himself large amounts of infield dirt. And Mets slugger Curtis Granderson, in an effort to keep things fresh, spent his offseason training with elite TSA agents, before doing some workouts with Jeremy Piven in Las Vegas.

The results were on display in the Mets’ 5-5 Spring Training tie against the Cardinals on Friday.
Scouts can look at this and talk about Granderson’s elite hand-speed and professional approach. Cardinals first baseman Scott Moore can look at it and wonder whether anyone respects the concept of personal space anymore. In the end, though, the lesson is simple: the best never stop looking for an edge. Looks like Curtis Granderson found it right... here:
Yeah, there it is.
