This was probably an accident, and definitely appropriate.

It’s impressive that Bartolo Colon is still a very effective Major League pitcher at the age of 40, let alone at the weight of somewhere between his listed 283 and let’s say 310 pounds and by throwing almost exclusively fastballs traveling between 86 and 91 miles per hour. He’s a brilliant athlete, size and aesthetics notwithstanding, but that is not the best thing about Bartolo Colon circa now.
No, the best thing about Bartolo Colon is the way he sort of casually makes magical things happen every time he takes the mound. There is such a tremendous offhandedness to his approach, and such weird and shocking good humor, that it’s a wonder that “Deal With It” shades don’t magically descend onto his face during his every tossed-off plate appearance. Sometimes, to make this sort of moment, all Colon has to do is stand in the right place during a Mets broadcast on SNY.
He didn’t even have to try. He doesn’t ever really have to. Here’s to another 17 seasons of this.
