Because the NFL Draft is about 17 months later than it should be, it happens to run up against college graduation season. We haven’t heard of this being a concern for any of the players, because none of us really know why colleges even have football, but this is a problem for Panthers GM Dave Gettleman, whose son is graduating from college today. Solution: SKYPE!
Panthers GM Dave Gettleman drafting via Skype to see son’s graduation
“Congrats, son! I love you enough to almost not pay attention to rounds 4-7 of the draft SORRY MY JOB IS IMPORTANT.”

Panthers GM Dave Gettleman's son is graduating Becker College in Worcester, Mass. So he's actually drafting via Skype. Very 2014.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) May 10, 2014 Cool what #Panthers did for GM Dave Gettleman. Sent IT to Worcester, MA to set up a "draft room" in a hotel so he can see his son graduate
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) May 10, 2014 The real question is if you're drafting on Skype, are you actually paying attention to either your son's graduation or the NFL Draft? Hopefully Gettleman manages to either be a successful father or general manager today, and he's a damn genius if he manages to do both. If he REALLY wanted to make things interesting, he'd draft his son as a graduation present, considering his son is now done with college and eligible for the NFL.
The REAL real question is why do we even have a three-day televised draft when all the GMs can just sit together on Skype? That’s what we do in our fantasy football league and it works fine. (Oh, yeah, a million billion people watch it.)
