Here is Royals announcer Rex Hudler trying to argue the moon is a planet

There was a gorgeous full moon over Kansas City Tuesday night, prompting the Royals broadcast unit to show it during the broadcast, prompting the play-by-play announcer to make a witty aside about how, as baseball broadcasters, they were obligated to show the full moon.

This was met by color commentator Rex Hudler ... thinking the moon was a planet?

“I like that rule! It’s a beautiful planet!”

“Well, it’s it’s a moon ...”

“Well, it looks like a planet to me!”

Of course, planets revolve around stars and moons revolve around other planets. The moon revolves around the earth, so it is a moon. (You can also tell it is a moon and not a planet because we call it “the moon.”

Of course, Hudler is only the latest in a long line of baseball commentators to be befuddled by the nature of the solar system:

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLANET?!?!?! MINE’S THE SUN. ALWAYS HAS BEEN. I LIKE IT BECAUSE MINE’S THE SUN. IT’S LIKE, KING OF PLANETS.

No word on whether Hudler would eat the moon if it were made of spare ribs.
