I can't judge Sonny Gray too much for this, because I'm pretty sure I'd want to taunt the people begging for baseballs and autographs, too:

The string snapped off immediately, but Gray pulled back at the exact right moment and the baseball bounced back into the dugout, mission accomplished. I’m curious if he ended up giving them a souvenir, or if he just kept tricking them with ball-on-a-string until game time:
