Fans in China buying fake doctors’ notes to watch the World Cup

Wouldn’t you pay $50 to skip work and watch the World Cup?

Zhong Zhi

Chinese soccer fans have to choose between watching the World Cup or sleeping. But there is also a third option -- fake doctors’ notes and skipping work.

And a lot of fans are picking fake doctors’ notes.

Because most World Cup matches will be live at midnight, 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. for the majority of China, fans can’t realistically watch matches, sleep and go to work. The solution? Buy fake doctors’ notes from the internet because the internet has everything.

Fake doctors have been on sale from sites like Taobao for years and they only cost $0.16 per pack, but the good ones -- which include a hospital stamp and a decent-looking fake signature -- can cost as much as $50. And tons of people in China are paying for them to get out of work so they can watch soccer all night and sleep all day.

Consider that: They are paying money so they can get away with not getting paid.

The World Cup is awesome.
