A man is recovering in hospital after sustaining one of the strangest sports-related injuries you’re likely to ever hear: A beaver attack.
Michael Cavanaugh of Lima, N.Y. was kayaking on Irondequoit Creek in upstate New York when the beaver attacked, pulling him into the water. The wood-eating rodent needed to be hit several times with a paddle before it would leave and even then it returned seconds later to try and finish the job. and needed to be hit several times with a paddle in order for him to leave.
“In general I feel like you do after having surgery. My body is focusing on healing the wounds. I’ve slept quite a bit. Though the event was scary I haven’t felt much in the way of traumatic emotional reactions which I’m thankful for. As a matter of fact I feel a lot of gratitude to God. First, that my injuries were not worse. Second, that the beaver did not attack Terri who would have been severely hurt as she was a great distance from the dock. Third, that I was surrounded by so many helpful people.”
The beaver was killed and is currently being tested for rabies. Normally it’s sad when an animal dies, but it’s clear this beaver was pure evil.
