Even the WWE thinks Washington’s NFL team name is racist

I’m afraid Wade Barrett has some bad news for Dan Snyder.

Gallo Images

Tonight’s episode of Monday Night RAW was in Washington, D.C., and as always, they had to rile up the crowd. Their way of doing that tonight? Having Wade “Bad News” Barrett make fun of Washington’s football team for having a racist name:

(The full point was that his opponent, Dolph Ziggler, would have to change his name, just like Washington’s NFL team might.)

Professional wrestling has always crafted characters who play off various stereotypes to provide entertainment. They’ve never hidden that fact. But even professional wrestlers are well above using an obvious racial slur without regard to the people it could offend. Isn’t that kinda telling?

(Somewhat unrelated, but we had used Bad News Barrett a few months ago to deliver bad news to Donald Sterling, so his stance against racism is firm!)
