A fortuitous series of events made a young boy’s evening when seven-year old Hunter Samworth wanted to say hello to Heater, mascot of the Dayton Dragons. Children meet mascots every day, but this was different because Hunter is deaf.
This mascot knew sign language and made a young fan’s night
This is the happiest sports coincidence we’ve seen in a while.
It just so happened that the man playing Heater is in school studying sign language and his escort is a sign language interpreter, allowing Hunter to have an interaction most kids take for granted. The boy’s father captured the video of his son and told Today that his son had a smile “ear to ear,” after meeting Heater.
This is one of those happy coincidences that made a child’s day and hopefully it will lead to more teams considering having trained interpreters on staff.
