The on-deck circle is a dangerous place. There’s a reason the fans behind home plate are protected by a net, but Casey McGehee had no such safeguard from this shattered Giancarlo Stanton bat:

McGehee is lucky this didn’t do more damage.

McGehee probably has a nasty bruise -- he was hit hard enough that you can see wood chips from the bat fly off of him -- but he’s lucky: just a few years ago, then-rookie Tyler Colvin was impaled by a broken bat, and had to spend a few days in the hospital recovering.
Let’s just be happy McGehee wasn’t standing six inches forward or backward from where he was, or else things could have gotten ugly.
