Michael Sam accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY's Wednesday night and gave a touching speech about his experience since coming out as he attempts to become the first openly gay player to play in an NFL game.

Sam spoke not only about his personal experiences, but also how important it is that others struggling the decision he made be helped to feel comfortable as themselves rather than hiding. On a night that sometimes seems contrived, Sam’s speech was meaningful and genuine.
