Germany celebrated their World Cup win in front of tens of thousands of fans in Berlin. It was a giant party, with the players at the center of it. They drank and danced and sung, and they did it all with the most sought-after trophy in all of sport.
Germany celebrated so hard that they damaged the World Cup trophy
Oops.

And they broke the World Cup trophy.
German federation president Wolfgang Niersbach said that when all of the celebrating was done, they saw that the trophy had been damaged.
“A small piece was chipped off during the celebrations,” Niersbach said. But don’t worry. “We have specialists who can repair this.”
And there was an investigation! Germany looked into who broke the trophy -- hint: there were thousands of drunk people who got their hands on it, including lots of players, so an educated guess is everyone -- and couldn’t figure it out.
“We have investigated the incident thoroughly but we did not get a result from that investigation.”
So they can fix the trophy. Good. But who cares. They won the World Cup and partied. In 10, 20 and even 50 years no one will care about a chip on the trophy, they’ll care about the time Germany were crowned champions of the world and the party that went along with it.
