I knew Russia-U.S. relations were getting a little tense lately, but jeez. This video comes to us from the U16 World Selects tournament in Bratislava, where Russian player Svetlana Starovoytova gave a disgusting two-handed chop to the side of the head of American player Hannah Bates. The stick broke. Over Bates’ head.
‘Russian proof’ helmet saves American hockey player in stick assault
Shoutout to Warrior for making Russian proof helmets that saved me from a concussion. https://t.co/VoTcjq3SvQ
— Hannah Bates (@HannahBates08) August 1, 2014 Bates plays for the West Coast Selects, who wound up winning the tournament for the third year in a row. According to Puck Daddy, Starovoytova didn’t play another game in the tournament. Given what appear to be some serious anger issues, she probably shouldn’t be allowed to step onto a hockey rink for a long time.
